What is the dosage of vitamin B12?

Which part of the body is the shot given?
The usual dose for pernicious anaemia-associated vitamin B12 deficiency is 1000 mcg given as a booster shot into the intermuscular in the arm or the bum
How often should B12 shot injections be given?
B12 shots can be given once daily for 6-7 days. Then the dose may be given every other day for 7 doses followed by every 3-4 days for around 3 weeks. Then, 1000 mcg should be injected every month for life. We usually recommend them fortnightly 2-4 sessions then every 3 months. This all depends on the individual which your therapist will go through.
Contraindications for B12 Shots
You should not have B12 shots if you have any of the following:
Allergic Reaction to cyanocobalamin or Cobalt
Hypokalemia (low potassium levels)
Lieber’s disease (an eye disease)
Polycythemia vera (a rare blood disorder)
Cold or allergy symptoms that affect your nose (sinus congestion, sneezing)
Kidney or liver disease
Iron or folic acid deficiency
Any type of infection
If you are receiving any medication or treatment that affects bone marrow.
What are the side-effects of Vitamin B12?
These are known to very rare
Pain/redness at the injection site
Mild diarrhoea
Itching, or a feeling of swelling all over the body may occur.

How quickly do B12 shots work?
When the B12 shots are administered, a patient with severe symptoms may receive five to seven during the first week to restore the body's reserves of this nutrient. A response usually is seen within 48 to 72 hours, with brisk production of new red blood cells.
How soon will I feel better after B12 shots?
However, it may take a few days or weeks before your symptoms start to improve and you feel better. At first, you may need to have the injection a few times a week to boost your levels of vitamin B12. Some common side effects are feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. It's safe to take for a long time.
How long do B12 shots last?
If your vitamin B12 deficiency is not caused by a lack of vitamin B12 in your diet, you'll usually need to have an injection of hydroxocobalamin every 2 to 3 months. The effects of our shots vary between individuals, but are typically felt for about one week or even longer depending on metabolism.
