Ear Hopi Candling is believed to be an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is a non-invasive treatment for the ears, and is relaxing and calming.

A hollow candle is inserted inside the ear canal and is then lit. It then sucks our all the impurities from the ear. It can also help to regulate ear pressure.

All candles are CE approved, they are a medical product according to medical device directive 93/42 EEC. Biousun ear candles are regularly tested by independent institutes.

FAQ

Ear Candling: History
Although ear candling is said to be an ancient practice, its origin and history are unclear. Places and cultures as diverse as China, Egypt, the pre-Columbian Americas, Tibet, the mythical city of Atlantis, and the Hopi Indian tribe have been mentioned as having originated the practice.

What is inside a Hopi ear candle?
The Hopi ear candle itself is hollow and made of cotton or muslin cloth which has been soaked in either beeswax or paraffin. They are sometimes scented with honey and herbs.

How does a Hopi ear candle work?
Now known as Hopi Ear Candles, the hand-made structures are hollow tubes which contain honey, sage, St John’s Wort and camomile. The candle is then lit and the resulting gentle suction and vacuum draws the wax and impurities from the ear and produces a light suction action.

What does ear candling feel like?
During the Ear Candling session, you will feel the candle being carefully inserted into your ear. You may hear some subtle crackling and popping when the wax is being pulled out.

What comes out during ear candling?
Ear candling involves placing a hollow candle in the external auditory canal; a brown waxy substance, believed to be a mixture of ear wax, debris, and bacteria, is left in the candle stub. No evidence is available to suggest that ear candles are an effective treatment for any condition.

How often should you use Hopi ear candles?
You should use no more than 2 ear candles per ear per treatment and a course of 5 – 7 treatments is recommended for best results. Always allow at least 48 hours between each treatment.

How long do Hopi ear candles take?
The usual burn time of each candle is between ten and fifteen minutes. A pleasant feeling of warmth from both the candle and the reassurance of the therapist's touch also makes this a deeply relaxing treatment.

Does Hopi ear candles help sinusitis?
A therapist can offer a scalp massage to support the candle treatment. This candle therapy is beneficial for sinus congestion, tension headaches, snoring, impaired hearing due to a build up of wax, anxiety pain due to clenching the jaw.
